How To Make A Camera Bag From Scratch

[DIY] The DIY $30 Rolling Photographic camera Pocketbook

I have been on the look out for an affordable rolling camera bag for some time. Thinktank, Lowepro, and Pelican all accept nifty products, but when it comes downward to it I really don't want to drib $300+ on a bag. What is and so special nearly these "specialized" photographic camera bags anyway?

After looking at my normal carry-on bag, I was determined to detect a cheap alternative. While I was browsing, these Calumet inserts for rolling bags popped upwardly.

I chop-chop grabbed a tape measure out and did some checking on my current bag. The calumet insert is xi.5" ten 7" 10 17.v", my acquit on was slightly larger at 12" ten eight" 10 19". The idea of saving hundreds of dollars simply withal getting the exact purse I wanted was coming together, and I was excited to encounter how well this was going to work in person.

The adjacent mean solar day I skipped out early on the day job and dropped past Calumet photo to buy the insert. Information technology was even better looking in person. I have to say this is one of the best photographic camera mods / DIY projects I take found. For one time everything worked out, and it does not wait like a cheap, ghetto item. I would proudly roll into whatsoever job with this behind me. Even if you do non have a carry on handbag, you can buy 1 for around $30-40 and yous local Ross, TJ Max, ect. Merely double check the measurements and make sure this insert will fit correctly. This setup fifty-fifty has some advantages that brand this better than the proper name brand photographic camera numberless:

Advantages:
-I accept an additional $250 in my pocket
-I don't have a logo on my bag that the NYC photo thieves / Usa Airways can see
-The handbag has dual purposes and saves tons of space in my basement apartment
-I tin can slide a laptop into the bag (I know some rolling bags can practise this, but not every bit cost effectively)
-Lightweight compared to the Pelican cases

Disadvantages:
-I don't look every bit cool without a name brand on my handbag
-If I do need to travel, I am short a carry on
-Not as protective as a Pelican case, just a hell of a lot lighter

What practice you think of my new DIY, affordable case? I am really curious if anyone can call up of other disadvantages, and if you attempt it out, let me know how this DIY project works for yous!
